The Damex Pro League
New in the field of basketball is the Damex Pro League in Gibraltar. Competing teams are composed of a mix of various players. With the focus on new basketball talent, scouts and agents keep a close eye on the matches. The shared ideas of supporting sports talent in our home base of Gibraltar made it an excited opportunity to create our own team.
The last two weeks BoXX United and 9 amazing professional basketball players collaborated to form the BoXX United Cobras. The Cobras team participated in the Damex Pro League in Gibraltar with Sergio Vicente Belena as their head coach. And what a team it was!
The BoXX United Cobras reigned undefeated
Starting off against the strong My Wines Wildcats, the Cobras managed to win with a close 64/62 score. Thereafter, the Cobras were on a winning strike. With scores of 78/66 against the Marble arc Gators, 85/74 against the Pulse Wolves, and 87/70 against the Buxton & Co Sharks, the road to the semi-finals was paved.
On July 21th, the BoXX United Cobras met the Bears, team of our friends at Hassans, in the semi-finals. After winning with 70/59, the Marcle arc Gators were the last to beat. The Tercentenary Sports Hall in Gibraltar was the setting for the big final. Halfway the match, the Cobras were 1 point behind. However, after the break, the Cobras made an impressive comeback! Scoring one point after the other, the Cobras finished their winning match with 81 to 59 on the score board.
What a team!
During the tournament, we met the players in the hall. Among which were top scorer José Antonio Medina and Jorge Lafuente, who was singlehandedly responsible for the most assists and defences.
