In addition to a large number of athletes, boxers, judokas, sailors and table tennis players, some world-class petanque players have also registered at BoXX United in recent weeks.
About petanque
Petanque is a variant of a typical ball game that was played in its earliest form by the ancient Greeks. However, there it was still practised as a game of strength. The Romans later turned it into a game of skill, more or less in the form we know it today. Also in the Middle Ages, petanque and other ball games remained very popular, but eventually the game was mainly played in regions like the French Provence.
The current form of the game, that’s characterised by its ambience, team spirit, emotion and fun, is originated over 100 years ago, where the thrower had to stay in place. From the Second World War onwards, petanque became increasingly popular, first invading all of France, then other European countries and even beyond. Today, petanque is widely played in Southern and Western Europe, North Africa, Madagascar, the USA, Canada and even in Thailand and Japan with nearly 800,000 licensed players and millions of people who simply play for pleasure.
We welcome all those registered athletes to the BoXX United network, helping them achieve their ultimate goals.
